Laeken is a cool, new label out of Los Angeles started by stylist and designer, Mallyce Miller. Inspired by the mystical haunts of places like Cambodia, her label emphasizes comfortable and versatile pieces. The best part about the label is that it not only uses some organic fabrics, everything is manufactured locally in LA and for every garmet purchased, Laeken donates $1 to ‘Friends of TOMS,’ a not-for-profit organization supporting philanthropic work abroad. www.friendsoftoms.org.

Speaking of the Democratization of Green Fashion...
As you know, I'm totally excited for the Loomstate collection at Target right now. Well, I caught wind of more exciting eco-fashion news: Payless Shoes is going green too! So far, I haven't been able to get to the store to check the collection out in person, but I have been reading some good stuff about the new line, Zoe and Zac, on a great blog that's dedicated to eco-friendly living. Check the article and the blog: http://www.thedailygreen.com/living-green/blogs/fashion-beauty/payless-shoes-goes-green
Update on Loomstate for Target
So, I was finally able to locate a Target that still had Loomstate in stock (in North Hollywood) and I bought two pieces, although, I really wanted more. I got the gray ombre mini skirt ($29.99) and a cute black dress ($39.99). I'm impressed with the fit of both pieces. The skirt has an assymetrical hem and looks as if it was purchased at a boutique and not Target. The dress fits like a glove and will be an easy, go-to piece this summer. The cotton (organic, of course) is soft and really good quality for the price point. I am so happy about this collection being at Target. Being green should be a goal for all mass-produced lines, however, I think that at this point, most companies see it as too expensive and not attainable - totally not true. I'm glad that Target is leading the way and ensuring that green becomes a part of their customers' lives and not a fleeting trend.

Why Wouldn't You?
So, now that you're savvy on all the green and environmentally conscious fashion labels out there and you've gone out of your way to make sure you wear only organic cotton, doesn't it just seem logical that you would wash your earth-friendly duds in planet-healthy detergents? Yep, I thought so.

This Just In!
Today is a busy day in the world of organic and earth friendly fashion! I have just been informed of a new and local label that promotes the usage of organic cottons when possible and strives to be earth friendly in every way. Judging from their website, it looks like it'll be a super cute fit, too!

Loomstate for Target Launches!

Loomstate http://www.loomstate.org/about/ , the 100% organic and sustainable fashion label, which launched in New York City in 2004 under the direction of designers Rogan Gregory and Scott Hahn, is committed to being a brand produced under socially and environmentally responsible guidelines. In the last four years that Loomstate has graced the fashion world's presence, consciencious shoppers could find pieces here and there in special boutiques and online if they were lucky. With the popularity of organic cottons growing amongst those in the know, along with Loomstate's ingenious prints and impecable fit becoming well-known, when a collection was released, sizes sold out quickly making the label next to covetable for many a green shopper. However, my dear socially aware readers, I am happy to announce that Loomstate has jumped on the democratic fashion bandwagon with its capsule collection that has just been released at select Target stores nationwide and at target.com! However, as per usual, I'm guessing this collection will be no different than the norm in that it'll be gone soon. Yours truly will be back on here in a matter of time to tell you how the fit and quality of the Target collection is holding up... it's just part of the fieldwork!!
Until then, enjoy pics and party review of the Loomstate for Target launch in Venice, CA here: http://la.racked.com/archives/2009/04/15/loomstate_for_target_rises_at_venices_big_red_sun.php

Oh, right..

Oops, I realized this morning that I need to refine my blog to be about a product or service for the time being. With that said, I am going to go ahead and write about all things green and sustainable and diy within the fashion community. Mainly, I will be focusing on what independent designers are doing to help the environment and focusing on their sustainable products. I am excited to see what turns up locally, although what is going on with the environment is a worldwide concern so I am sure to find some very interesting green fashion lines throughout the world. This is still a large and vague subject. I get the feeling that as this blog gets rolling, my topic will become more focused.
yay!

My first ever blog posting! I've actually been meaning to start a blog of my own for oh... like the last three or four years. Of course, leave it to a class I'm taking at Berkeley to finally get me blogging! Because I am obsessed with clothing, costume, fashion design and textile history and great style in general, my blog is mainly focused on fashion/style. However, because I'm sort of a renaissance woman, I am sure that I am bound to throw in a few tidbits of other aspects of my life that I find interesting or amazing!
